Situated in a practice-based approach, this research aims to explore the relations between everyday rhythm and media technologies. By placing `practices` at the centre of study, one purpose of the project is to investigate both the consumption and production sides of media technologies, and to broaden the scope of media theories and research methods. In addition, the project hope to probe into the dynamic relations between media users and producers, and the changing normality in Taiwan society. Feeling pressed for time is common. Many have attributed to this phenomenon to the widespread popularity of ICTs in everyday life. However, is time pressure purely caused by the development of technologies? Do users have their strategies to deal with time pressure? How are these ways of use technologies related to the users’ social backgrounds? Are there any cultural differences? These are important inquiries for this empirical study, and for communication and sociology research in general. Previous research has pointed out that working mothers with young children, comparing with other demographic groups, are most often to have a harried lifestyle. This project focuses on the daily rhythm of mothers in Taiwan, how they manage ICTs to cope with time pressures, and possible digital divides among them. As to the production side, the research intends to interview media workers, such as TV producers, website programmers, and schedule planners. The major inquiry of this part is to know how the media workers presume their target audiences, negotiate with their feedback, and the forces involved in decision- making.
