As a relatively new player in Sub-Saharan Africa, China’s role has been discussed widely from many perspectives. The accusation of China’s neo-colonialism can be found everywhere in many medias. Whether Chinese FDI could help Africa’s development remains a conflicting debate. This paper focuses on Zambia and analyzes the presence of Chinese investment in this region by looking into the performance of Chinese enterprises in localization and sustainable development to find out whether there is correlation and how they interact. It tries to response to the accusation that Chinese investment in SSA does not take its responsibilities in localization and sustainable development from a micro level. The paper finds out that Chinese investment actually brings benefits to Zambia, and they are no worse than its western counterparts in localization and sustainable development, if not better. Moreover, the better Chinese companies do in localization and sustainable development, the better their businesses are running in a long run. Chinese firms also realize this point thus they are putting more efforts into it. Apart from these observations, other dimensions of these two concepts and some other industries that more Chinese enterprises are heading to now are also worth further study.

zh_TW
dc.description.abstract (摘要) As a relatively new player in Sub-Saharan Africa, China’s role has been discussed widely from many perspectives. Apart from these observations, other dimensions of these two concepts and some other industries that more Chinese enterprises are heading to now are also worth further study.en_US
