摘要 本文從問題意識的產生與演變，到確立研究動機與目的，以及從理解理論的內容，再到後冷戰台海局勢和美國在其中扮演角色的整體認識，故設定了如下的預期研究成果：

第一，界定後冷戰時期美國單極霸權的國際結構，其對台海兩岸局勢的制約及影響，特別是霸權穩定論的學理在美中台三邊互動關係之運用。
第二，界定自1993年至2000年柯林頓總統執政以來，美中台雙邊關係的發
展與變遷，以及美國在台海的政治、軍事、經貿關係上的互動，描繪出輪廓與特徵，並釐清美國在整個台海關係所扮演的角色、台灣和中共所受到的影響，並找出三邊互動模式。
第三，透過本文的研究結論來解釋美國對台海兩岸政策的基本主張與利益所
在，以比較的方式分析美國對於台灣以及中共政策的相同、差異與關聯性，對未來可能的發展做出若干的預測。
